The meaning with physiological testing of athletes: The coach perspective
Research project
A common practice in sports is the use of physiological tests to measure the physical capacity of athletes with the aim of developing and optimizing their performance. To date, we know remarkably little about how coaches work with the testing of athletes’ physical determinants of performance. This project investigates how coaches and school sport teachers work with testing young athletes. What tests are used, when and how they are used and the motives behind testing athletes.
This project investigates the physiological testing of young athletes by coaches and school sport teachers. Interviews with coaches/special education teachers from different sports will form the empirical basis. The focus of the project contributes to an understanding of testing practices in sports and its relationship to being part of a sustainable sports environment for talent development, which can, among other things, be used as knowledge that can be used in coach education.
The project investigates coaches' and school sports teachers' physiological testing of young athletes. The project is interested in which tests are used, when and how they are used, and the motives behind testing athletes. The voices, experiences and actions of coaches and special sports teachers in connection with testing athletes' physical abilities will form the empirical basis of the project. The ambition of the project is to interview coaches and school sports teachers from both team and individual sports in order to understand whether and how physiological testing is sport-specific.
