The PRISUM-study - Pain rehabilitation in SCI Umeå

Research project Chronic pain is a common and significant problem among people with spinal cord injury. Treatment often relies on medication, but many patients experience insufficient pain relief and continue to be affected in their daily activities and overall quality of life.

There is evidence that multimodal pain rehabilitation can be effective for both musculoskeletal and neuropathic pain. Despite this, such interventions are rarely offered to people with spinal cord injury. This project aims to investigate experiences and prevalence of chronic pain after a spinal cord injury and also collaboratively develop and evaluate a digital pain rehabilitation program for people with traumatic spinal cord injury together with patients, researchers, and healthcare professionals working in the field.

Project description

In the next phase, we will launch a digital pain rehabilitation program for people with traumatic spinal cord injury. The purpose is to investigate whether this new way of working is feasible and acceptable for both the users and the professionals who will be involved in delivering the program. The aim of the project is to implement the program within specialist care, with the long-term ambition of collaborating with additional clinics in a larger future initiative.
