Other EU programmes and cooperation initiatives

In addition to Horizon Europe, the EU funds a number of other programmes. The following are additional opportunities potentially relevant for researchers at Umeå University. These programmes support projects that contribute to the EU’s goals in such areas as digitisation, health, security, energy and climate.


Examples of thematic programmes

  • European Defence Fund
    Do you want to cooperate on defence research, security or technology development? This programme funds projects that strengthen the EU’s defence capabilities, such as in drone technology, cybersecurity and critical supply chains.

  • EU4Health
    With this programme, you can help develop more effective and efficient healthcare systems. The programme funds initiatives in such areas as pharmaceutical safety, digital health and crisis preparedness.

  • Digital Europe Programme (Digital)
    Apply for funding for projects in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, supercomputing and advanced digital skills. The programme promotes the broad use of digital technology and going from research to practical application.

  • Internal Security Fund (ISF)
    Are you interested in contributing to law enforcement or security? This programme supports projects that combat organised crime, cybercrime, terrorism and radicalisation and that improve the protection of public settings and crime victims.

  • Programme for the Environment and Climate Action (LIFE)
    The EU’s only programme focused entirely on the environment, climate and clean energy. You can apply for grants for projects that promote biodiversity, a circular economy, climate adaptation and energy transition, especially when they involve innovative solutions or strengthen the implementation of EU environmental and climate policy.
