The application workshop is open every Thursday afternoon from 16 January to 12 June 2025 (excluding holidays). Here, the Research Support and Collaboration Office offers Umeå University employees the opportunity to develop their research idea or improve their application to funding bodies such as the Swedish Energy Agency, Formas, Forte, the Swedish Research Council and Vinnova.

The workshop takes the form of an online consultation with a research coordinator via Teams or Zoom.

Book a time and start preparing

How do I book a time?

Fill in the booking form and indicate which Thursday afternoon you would like to meet with a research coordinator. To ensure that as many people as possible have the chance to participate, only one booking is allowed per researcher.

Please note: When choosing the date, note that you will need to submit supporting documents one week in advance to give the research coordinator time to prepare constructive feedback.

Are there any requirements to participate in an application workshop?

Yes, the requirements to participate are as follows:

  • You must be employed at Umeå University.
  • Umeå University is to be the planned administrating organisation for the research project.

What will happen during the application workshop?

During the application workshop, you will meet individually with a research coordinator for approximately 30 minutes. The coordinator will either provide advice regarding a new application idea or feedback on an existing application.

Do I need to have a completed application?

No. You can bring anything from a first draft to an almost finished project description or a previously submitted application that was rejected. The important thing is that you submit some kind of written documentation to begin the discussion. You explain the type of documentation in the registration form.

If you have not yet had time to write down your application idea, you will receive a template for a one-page proposal as soon as your booking is confirmed. The questions in the template help summarise your idea, allowing the research coordinator to provide advice on aspects such as suitable funding organisations and calls for proposals.

What happens after filling in the booking form?

You will receive an email with a suggested time, instructions on how to submit application documents and a link for an online meeting.

Am I guaranteed to receive a time?

The ambition is that everyone who requests a time will receive an appointment. If, however, demand is greater than the number of available time slots, priority will be given to researchers who have not participated in an application workshop previously.
