Rules for research infrastructures
In many cases, research infrastructure is a fundamental prerequisite for conducting research of the highest quality. For Umeå University to provide researchers with access to the best research infrastructure, coordination, a clear division of responsibilities and common principles for planning, prioritisation, and funding must be in place.
As such, Umeå University has drawn up Rules for research infrastructure that clarify the following:
- the criteria for a research infrastructure to be defined as a research infrastructure at Umeå University;
- the University's coordination of the Swedish Research Council’s funding process for research infrastructures of national interest;
- funding of research infrastructures at Umeå University;
- principles for user fees; and
- instructions for presentation of research infrastructures on Umeå University’s website.

The Council for Research Infrastructure (RIS)
Umeå University also has a Council for Research Infrastructure at Umeå University (RIS) with members from all faculties. The Council supports the University Management and FOSTRA in their strategic work with research infrastructure, coordinates all university-wide activities regarding infrastructure and serves as a forum for knowledge exchange regarding research infrastructure.
