Search for and access research data produced by others
Research data and descriptions of data are made available and are searchable through repositories. Open access data enable you to build on the research of others and to review and verify the results from previous studies.
Tools for data searches
The national Researchdata.se web portal presents data from multiple repositories and subject areas through a shared search function.
Multiple access points for repositories where you can search for research data:
- The Open Access Directory (OAD) has compiled a comprehensive list of data repositories by subject (oad.edu)
- Re3data.org is a comprehensive global registry of research data repositories. The register covers most research subjects.
How to reuse and cite data produced by other researchers
When reusing data from other researchers, you need to check the terms of use or license for the data you are going to use. You also need to properly cite the data. Researchdata.se provides tips and information about what to consider when you want to reuse data.

Request data with restricted access
Some research data are not openly available. This can apply to data that contain personal data or that are subject to confidentiality. Instead, you can find descriptions of data that can help you decide whether you would like to request access to the data. In Sweden, research data are public documents and are requested as such, but the process can be different in other countries.
