Use an author ID

A unique identifier, linked to you as an individual, is persistent throughout your career and helps keep track of your publications. Learn more about ORCID and other relevant identifiers for researchers.

A unique identifier distinguishes you from other authors

A persistent or permanent identifier is a unique identifier that distinguishes you from other authors, so that there is no risk that your publications will be confused with those of other researchers. The identifier follows you throughout your career, even if you change your name or workplace. This makes it easier for authors to receive recognition for their publications.

Get an ORCID

ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) is an internationally established persistent identifier used by several funding organisations, databases and platforms for research communication. One advantage of ORCID is that you can use it to log into other services. It can also be linked to your profiles in Scopus and Web of Science.

In addition to listing publications in your ORCID profile, you can also show other research results, such as datasets, and list activities such as peer review assignments. This way, your profile is almost like a business card.

Link your ORCID to your UMU ID

As an employee at Umeå University, you can link your ORCID to your UMU ID in My settings. Once you have linked the two, your ORCID is shown on your personal page on umu.se. If you do not already have an ORCID, you can create one in the first step of the linking process.

Author ID (Scopus)

In Scopus, author IDs are created automatically, which means there is a risk of duplicate profiles and incorrect information. For this reason, make sure you have a single profile and that the correct publications are listed. In your profile, you can see an overview of your publications and citations.

ResearcherID (Web of Science)

By creating a profile in Web of Science, you can ensure that the right publications are linked to you using a unique ResearcherID. Your profile will show an overview of publications and citations. In addition to publications, you can also list assignments such as peer review and journal editorial work. Web of Science is partially synchronised with ORCID, and it is easy to export information between the systems.

Personal identifiers in DiVA

In the University’s DiVA publication database, your UMU ID is used to link your publications to you and to generate the publication list on your personal page. This is why it is important that you always fill in your UMU ID when you register publications in DiVA.
