This is included in the agreement
During 2024 and 2025, the four research funders, the Swedish Research Council, Forte, Formas, and Vinnova, have decided to jointly fund publishing with publishers who only publish fully open access journals. This means that researchers at Umeå University can publish articles in the publishers' journals without having to pay a publishing fee (APC, article processing charge). The same conditions apply to all researchers linked to an organisation in the Bibsam consortium.

Journals and publication types
The agreement covers all article types.
Choice of licence
Articles covered by the agreement are published with a CC BY licence.
What you need to do
To be covered by the agreement, you must:
- be the corresponding author, i.e., the person communicating with the publisher and journal;
- be the submitting author if the article has more than one corresponding author;
- state a correct affiliation to Umeå University in the manuscript; and
- state Umeå University as your affiliation in the publisher submission system.
We recommend that you use your email address ending in umu.se, which simplifies identification of your Umeå University affiliation.
Good to know about the publishing process
Select Umeå University in the ‘Payer Selection’ section. Frontiers will ask you to fill in an alternative billing address that they will use if, for some reason, the agreement does not apply to your article. Here, you should fill in your own billing address, preferably that of your department.
If an article has several corresponding authors, the affiliation of the submitting corresponding author determines whether the article will be published under the agreement.
