Oxford University Press (OUP)

Umeå University researchers can publish open access at no cost in most Oxford University Press journals. This page provides more information about the terms of the publishing agreement for 2025 and what it means for you.

This is included in the agreement

The open access publishing fee (APC, article processing charge) has been pre-paid through an agreement between the library and the publisher. The agreement applies when the corresponding author (i.e., the one handling communication with the publisher and journal) is affiliated with Umeå University.

The agreement does not cover additional charges, such as page charges or charges for colour illustrations.

Publication types

The agreement applies to the publication types "research article", "review article", "brief report", and "case report".

Choice of licence

Articles covered by the agreement are in most cases published with a CC BY licence. Some OUP journals offer a more restrictive licence, such as CC BY-NC-ND or CC BY-NC.

Included journals

The agreement applies to open access publishing in hybrid journals included in the Oxford Journals Collection and in their open access journals, OUP Fully Open Access. Most hybrid journals published by OUP are included in the agreement, but there are some exceptions. The list of included journals will be subject to minor changes. You will find the latest updated list of hybrid journals included in the agreement on the OUP website.

You are not included in the Read and Publish agreement if you publish your article in a Supplement.

Additional fees for some journals

At present, Oxford University Press charges a fee when an article is accepted for publication (acceptance fee) or when it is submitted for publication (submission fee) for some of its journals. These fees are not included in the agreement. As the author, you are responsible for covering these costs yourself.
