Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS)

Umeå University researchers can publish open access at a discount in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS). Read more about the terms of our agreement with the publisher for 2025 and what it means for you here.

The publishing fee (APC, article processing charge) is discounted via an agreement between the library and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS). The price depends on when you want the article to be made openly available:

  • If you choose to publish with immediate open access, you will get a discount on the publishing fee and pay $5,495 (full price $5,800). You can choose between a CC BY license and a CC BY-NC-ND license.
  • If you choose to publish with delayed open access, you pay the standard price of $2,945. Your article will be published under a CC BY-NC-ND license and will not be made openly available until six months after the publication date.

Terms and conditions

  • You must be the corresponding author, i.e., the one handling communication with the publisher and journal.
  • Your Umeå University affiliation must be stated in the published article.
  • Use your university email ending with @umu.se. The email domain is used to recognise your eligibility.
  • You can choose to publish open access either under a CC BY license or a CC BY-NC-ND license.
