This is included in the agreement
The open access publishing fee (APC, article processing charge) has been pre-paid through an agreement between the library and the publisher. The agreement applies when the corresponding author (i.e., the one handling communication with the publisher and journal) is affiliated with Umeå University.
The agreement does not cover additional charges, such as page charges or charges for colour illustrations.
The agreement applies to articles accepted by the publisher in 2024 or 2025 (“acceptance date” during 2024-2025).
Journals and publication types
The agreement applies to three hybrid journals from Rockefeller University Press:
- Journal of Cell Biology (JCB)
- Journal of Experimental Medicine (JEM)
- Journal of General Physiology (JPG)
Publication types covered by the agreement include “article”, “brief definitive report”, “communication”, “hypothesis”, “methods and approaches”, “report”, “spotlight”, and “technical advances and resources”.
Choice of licence
Articles covered by the agreement are published with a CC BY licence.
What you need to do
To be covered by the agreement, you must:
- be the corresponding author;
- state a correct affiliation to Umeå University in the manuscript; and
- select Umeå University as your primary affiliation in the publisher submission system.
We recommend that you use your email address ending in umu.se, which simplifies identification of your Umeå University affiliation.
Good to know about the publishing process
When choosing your organisation, select Umeå University from the list of organisations. Do not enter anything in free text.

Always check the terms and conditions
It is crucial that you review the terms and conditions on the website of both the publisher and the journal in which you choose to publish.
Contact the library
Contact the library if you have any questions. Select "Publishing, theses and research data" in the contact form.
