This is included in the agreement
The open access publishing fee (APC, article processing charge) has been pre-paid through an agreement between the Library and the publisher. The agreement applies when the corresponding author (i.e., the person communicating with the publisher and journal) is affiliated with Umeå University.
The agreement does not cover additional charges, such as page fees or colour illustration fees.
The agreement applies to articles accepted by the publisher in 2025 or 2026 (“acceptance date” in 2025–2026).
Journals and article types
The agreement applies to open access publishing in the publisher’s hybrid journals in the RSC Gold Collection and in all open access journals from the publisher.
Choice of licence
Articles covered by the agreement are published with a CC BY or CC BY-NC licence.
What you need to do
To use the agreement, you must:
- be the corresponding author;
- state a correct affiliation to Umeå University in the manuscript; and
- use your university email ending with @umu.se.
Contact the Library for guidance if you do not have an Umeå University email address.
Good to know about the publishing process
Once your article has been accepted for publication, you will receive an email from the publisher with a link to sign a “Licence to Publish” agreement, clearly stating that the cost of open access publication is covered by the Library’s agreement. Check “select an open access licence” for free open access publishing.

Always check the terms and conditions
It is crucial that you review the terms and conditions on the website of both the publisher and the journal in which you choose to publish.
