Registered dietitian and doctoral student in the InSyNC doctoral program. My research interest is the social and nutritional aspects of food insecurity.
Food insecurity implies a “limited or uncertain availability of nutritionally adequate and safe foods or limited or uncertain ability to acquire acceptable foods in socially acceptable ways”. This is a growing concern not only in third-world countries but also in welfare countries like Sweden.
Research questions that I am interested in are:
- how individuals manage food and meals in their daily lives, and - how their energy and nutrient intake corresponds to the nutritional recommedations.
Understanding these social and nutritional aspects can contribute to knowledge that enables society to better support people experiencing food insecurity, thereby reducing its negative effects on public health.
I am a reg. dietitian from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá (Colombia). My bachelor´s thesis was in the area food insecurity in families living on the country side in Colombia. I have a master's degree in Public Health from Umeå University. I have worked as a clinical and community dietitian in Colombia with focus on children and adolescents; and in Sweden, as clinical dietitian with focus on pediatrics for the past six years.
