Charlotte Wiberg is Professor of Informatics, specialising in Interaction Design, at the Department of Informatics at Umeå University. Her research has consistently focused on interaction design and user experience (UX), with particular applications in healthcare and games, and, more recently, cybersecurity. She was appointed Professor at Umeå University in 2018, at Chalmers University of Technology 2019 and at Luleå University of Technology 2024. Throughout her academic career, she has conducted research in close collaboration with industry and other external partners.

Before returning to Umeå University, she served as Vice-Rector for Research and Collaboration at Luleå University of Technology, an appointment she held until February 2025. She was also Professor of Information Systems at the university. As Vice-Rector, she was a member of the university’s senior management and supported the Vice-Chancellor in the overall leadership of the university, with particular responsibility for research and external collaboration. Her work included supporting subject representatives in matters relating to research funding, contributing to the university’s three future areas, and chairing the Vice-Chancellor’s Research Council. Within her collaboration portfolio, she worked actively with fundraising and the development of strategic partnerships.

Prior to joining Luleå University of Technology, she served as Deputy President at Chalmers University of Technology, a position she left in November 2023. As Deputy President, she was the university’s chief academic officer and had line-management responsibility for all researchers and teaching staff at Chalmers—approximately 2,800 of the university’s 3,400 employees. She also acted on behalf of the President when required and served as Acting President of Chalmers for two months in the spring of 2023. Her portfolio additionally included responsibility for digitalisation and overall responsibility for doctoral education at Chalmers.

From 2019 to 2021, she was Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, a joint department at Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg. In this role, she led ten division heads and had overall responsibility for approximately 280 employees. She was also a member of Chalmers’ central management team, reporting directly to the President. As Deputy President, she additionally headed the President’s Office—the operational support function for Chalmers’ senior management team—until the spring of 2023.

Charlotte Wiberg also has extensive experience from industry and the public sector, where she has held several senior management positions, including Head of IT Development and Innovation at Region Västerbotten.
