Jim Jormanainen is a PhD candidate in Political Science at the Department of Political Science and is affiliated with the Umeå Center for Gender Studies at Umeå University. His research explores queer-informed explanations for, and queer experiences of, the disproportionate consequences for and targeted violence towards sexual and gender minorities during conflicts, crises, and disasters. His dissertation focuses on the 2015 earthquake in Nepal, the economic crisis in South Africa, COVID-19 in Sweden, and the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
