As of the 6th of October 2022, I started as a Postdoctoral fellow at the Geography Department at Umeå University. My research focuses on social-ecological interactions at the periphery, with an emphasis on nature-based tourism and nature conservation. In my postdoc project, I aim to explore the post-Covid-19 imaginaries of nature-based tourism in remote peripheral areas, looking at two case studies: Abisko, northern Sweden, and Villa O'Higgins, Patagonia, Chile.

In November 2021, I received my PhD affiliated with the Environmental Policy Group at Wageningen University, the Netherlands. In my dissertation, I focused on discourses and practices on nature-based tourism, salmon aquaculture and nature conservation, and their implications for the (de)peripheralization of Northern Patagonia, Chile.

Originally from Chile, I have an interdisciplinary background built upon my undergraduate studies in ecology (University of Chile), and graduate studies in ecosystem ecology (University of Chile) and environmental management (University of Kiel, Germany).  Moreover, I have more than ten years of experience working both as a consultant and as a researcher.

Recently, I have been granted an initiation grant funded by STINT, The Swedish Foundation for International Cooperation in Research and Higher Education, around the topic of cryotourism.

I also have a strong interest on sustainability transformations and transformative methods for research and education. When I teach, I always aim for interactive teaching activities. I very much enjoy art-inspired discussions. While in Umeå, I am also part of the Umeå Transformation Research Initiative (UTRI), through the UTRI Young Researcher Network.
