Cardiomyopathies are characterized by structural remodeling of the heart muscle that can gradually lead to impaired cardiac function and arrhythmias. My research focuses on how the extracellular matrix, the supportive tissue surrounding cardiomyocytes, is affected in diseases such as transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy (ATTR-CM) and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. By studying hyaluronan, protein and amyloid deposits, and their interactions with the immune system, I aim to improve our understanding of the mechanisms driving disease progression. Ultimately, this research aims to identify mechanisms that could serve as future diagnostic markers or therapeutic targets in cardiomyopathies.
