In April 2025, I joined Fredrik Almqvist lab at Umeå University, Sweden, as a Postdoctoral Fellow. My current research involves the design and synthesis of novel ring-fused heterocycles to be tested for biological potential. The aim is to synthesize ring-fused 2-pyridones targeting Fusobacterium nucleatum involved in colorectal cancer, and to develop chemical probes to decipher mechanisms of action.
I received my PhD degree in Chemistry from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, India in November 2021. During my doctoral studies in Dr. Vipan’s research group, I synthesized naphthalimide and isoniazid based molecular hybrids to target tropic diseases including malaria and tuberculosis. In September 2022, I moved to Dr. Martin’s lab at University of Iowa, United States. As a postdoctoral researcher, I worked in the project of total synthesis of natural products. My research involved the synthesis of molecular analogs based on fraxinellone (a natural neuroprotective compound), with the aim of exploring their potential as neuroprotective agents against glutamate excitotoxicity.
