General guidelines for study levels in Canada

First year courses are often adapted to those newly admitted to the university. Therefore, it may be more valuable to choose higher-level courses if you choose to study courses in your main field. For more information, please visit the university's website.

Campus: There are two campuses: main campus, City Center Campus, is situated in central Edmonton.
Student life: The classes are small, about 10–50 students. There are plenty of student clubs that offer a wide variety of different activities. The university has an international student club that organises events and provides support to international students. They also have sports teams in hockey, basketball, curling, football, golf and volleyball.

Grant MacEwan is a multicultural university and they highlight this by arranging activities such as Global Awareness Week, International Day for the Prevention of Racism and The MacEwan Diversity Project.

About Edmonton

Edmonton with over 800 000 inhabitants is the capital of the province Alberta. One of the largest malls in the world is located here and there are several festivals arranged every year. There are also plenty of opportunities for outdoor adventure: visit Edmonton's magnificent river valley which is a large city park or visit Elk Island National Park, located less than an hour away from the city.

Students who apply for Grant MacEwan should be flexible and want/are able to take courses in a variety of subject areas.

The course selection varies from year to year, so we recommend you e-mail us at outgoing.io@umu.se to ask regarding courses. 

Full-time studies on undergraduate level (corresponding to 30 hp): 15 credits

Course types: The majority of courses in the BA program are 3 credits (see an advisor at Grant MacEwan to add any 6 credit courses).

Course levels:
100–199: junior-level
200 and higher: senior-level

Academic year:
Autumn term: September–December
Winter term: January–April

Although tuition fee is not charged, exchange student must pay mandatory supplemental fees (approximately $600 depending on your program), which cover student services on campus (bus pass, counselling and academic advising, sports facilities and many discounted social activities) and mandatory course material fee.

Accommodation

On-campus: Students can apply for housing. MacEwan Residence has more than 700 apartment-style rooms. The Residence services will provide exchange students with of information regarding living in residence. The downtown location is on campus and close to restaurants, bus routes, shopping centers and local attractions.

Student grants and loans for studies outside of Sweden

You may be entitled to student grants and loans from CSN when studying abroad.

As the cost of living and accommodation may be higher abroad, you can apply for an extra loan known as an additional loan for studies abroad.

You can also apply for an additional loan to cover additional costs, i.e. travel and insurance costs.
