The University has four campuses, Handen Campus is the main campus and is situated 20 minutes drive from central Shanghai.
Student life:
Student clubs play an important role in the campus culture. There are over 300 student clubs with focus on media, dance, music, politics, theatre, chess, card games, outdoors activities and sports.

Among the worlds top universities, Fudan University is ranked no. 44 by QS World University Rankings 2019.

About Shanghai

Shanghai is one of the four municipalities under the direct administration of the central government of China. With its 24 million citizens, it is one of the most populous cities in the world. People's Square, located in the heart of downtown Shanghai, hosts several parks and museums. The subway station under the square is one of the largest in the world.

Note: Mandatory insurance must be purchased by student accepted for exchange. Approximate cost 400 CNY per semester.

Closed/restricted programmes and courses:
There are three paths available for university-level students at Fudan. Each student must choose one and only one of the paths:

Chinese Language Program: taking Chinese language courses in ICES

General Advanced Program: taking undergraduate-level courses (undergraduate-level courses in medical sciences are not available).

Senior Advanced Program: taking graduate-level courses offered by the School of Economics, School of Management, Law School, School of International Relations and Public Affairs, and graduate-level courses in medical sciences are not available.  Enrollment in any other schools/departments is subject to case-by-case confirmation with that school/department in nomination and application period.

Note that students wanting to apply for graduate programs, need to present their undergraduate diplomas.

Full time studies (corresponding to 30 hp): 15 credits

Course types: 1,5-4 credits/course

Course levels:
Language courses: for language students (mostly taught in Chinese)
Undergraduate courses: There is courses available in English, but students will need to be flexible.
Graduate courses: some programmes are instructed in English, so called "EMA"

Academic year:
First term: September–January
Second term: February–July


Exchange students can apply for housing online, however, there is no guarantee that there is any housing available. If university-administered accommodation is not available, Student Mobility Section will do its best to help exchange students find accommodation.

Student grants and loans for studies outside of Sweden

You may be entitled to student grants and loans from CSN when studying abroad.

As the cost of living and accommodation may be higher abroad, you can apply for an extra loan known as an additional loan for studies abroad.

You can also apply for an additional loan to cover additional costs, i.e. travel and insurance costs.
