(Ö) – Vilokonst

Welcome to sit, lie and lean against an island (Ö). Is sight the only way to experience art? We have explored, and determined that the answer is No. The first year of the bachelor's program in fine art from Umeå Academy of Fine Arts has created the installation together as a collective work where the group has functioned as a unified organism with a common intention: care, warmth and presence. As a counterbalance to the sterile and clinical hospital environment, a textile room is created – a piece of furniture, a place, a state – that invites rest, touch and stillness. “Vilokonst” can be translated as “the art of resting”.

The exhibition explores the balance between thought and tactility, between the conceptual and the sensual. It is a room for recovery, a break, a moment of rest where all bodies have a place.
