Ford Rapport
As semi-autonomous vehicles become more common, new opportunities arise to rethink the social dynamics of car interiors. This joint project, Rapport, explores how future mobility can shift focus inward, transforming the vehicle from a transport tool into a shared, social space. Through workshops and prototyping, the team investigated how to reduce hierarchy and foster purposeful interaction among all passengers. The result is an interior concept where seats are reoriented for togetherness, tasks are modular and passable, and interfaces are visually clarified between software and hardware. Passengers can pick and host any of six tasks: drive, music, lighting, games, snacks or navigation, via a central infotainment system that promotes collaboration and distributes responsibility for the trip. A distinctive yellow wireless handheld unit with an accelerometer enables instinctive manual steering when needed, turning journeys into interactive and engaging experiences. The goal is to create emotional trust, invite collaboration and promote presence, designing a vehicle experience not just for movement, but for meaningful connection on the way.
