Bangor regulations

According to the Framework for Higher Education Qualifications in England, Wales and Northern Ireland (2008), candidates [for doctorates] must show, for a specified field of study or area of professional practice:

•       An ability to create and interpret new knowledge through original research or other advanced scholarship. The work must be at the forefront of the discipline, of a quality to satisfy peer review, and must merit publication.

•       Acquisition and understanding of a substantial body of knowledge which is at the forefront of an academic discipline or area of professional practice.

The research you present in your doctoral dissertation will make a significant contribution to the formation of knowledge, and have local, national and international impact. That is your dissertation will rest on both local, national and international research, and the significant contribution will be framed so that it has relevance for these three contexts. Additionally, as your dissertation will be at the forefront of its area you need to be able to articulate how your research can be developed further.

In this assignment, we ask you (i) to argue why your significant contribution will have local, national and international relevance, and (ii) to identify potential areas for further research that will arise out of the research presented in your dissertation.

This assignment can be written in English, Swedish or Welsh, but Swedish and Welsh assignments need to be translated into English.
