UmArts and Umeå School of Architecture are hiring up to two teaching Assistants to support the exciting work of the UmArts research production team during the fall and spring semester of 2026/2027. Our goal is to create a dynamic and interdisciplinary team, so students across the Arts Campus departments and within the Department of Creative Studies and Museum Studies are eligible and encouraged to apply. The application deadline is 6 July 2026.

Job description

As a teaching assistant within research production and communications, you will work in coordination with the UmArts leadership and Research Coordinator with various tasks related to producing research projects and events, marketing and communications. For example: organising working group meetings and seminars, writing exhibition guides, supporting publications, and writing workshops. Additional tasks can include: engaging visitors with exhibitions, organising catering and travel. See www.umarts.se for the program of activities.

Other tasks and duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

To be eligible for employment as a teaching assistant, you must be admitted to undergraduate or advanced-level studies at a university.

To be eligible to apply for the positions you should:

  • Be a student at Umeå School of Architecture, Umeå Academy of Fine Arts, Umeå Institute of Design, the Department of Creative Studies in Education or Museum Studies
  • Have an interest in developing your knowledge and skills in the area of practice-based research project development, marketing and communications
  • Have a good understanding of social media channels
  • Have the ability to take initiative and work independently
  • Experience in writing about art, architecture and design.

Previous experience working with events, design, and/or the implementation of temporary exhibition structures and environments is meritorious. Experience working with public events and/or in an academic context is also a merit.

Terms of Employment

As a Teaching Assistant, you are employed by Umeå University. The positions are 20% of full-time and span across the the fall semester of 2026 and the spring semester of 2027. The start date is 1 September 2026 or as agreed.
