Jarita Holbrook, Associate Professor at the University of Western Cape, will hold a seminar entitled: Indigenous Astronomy & Folklore in the Karoo

Jarita about the seminar:

"Working with folklorist Jose De Prada-Samper, we recorded several stories with elders connected to the sky in the Karoo semi-desert region of South Africa. The elders spoke in Afrikaans, but as de Prada-Samper found a decade ago, the stories were those of the indigenous inhabitants of the Karoo, the San. The video recorded records are an archive of the connection to San knowledge and ideas that remain in the area as well as those of elders that have since passed away."
