Guest speaker: Anne Bettina Pedersen (Medical Humanities). Title: “We Wet Your Wounds with Kisses and Tears: An Examination of Sylvia Likens as a U.S, Cultural Phenomenon". In this talk, I use examples from my own dissertation to illustrate how researchers might benefit from using Arts-Based Research (such as the writing of fiction and embroidering) to examine their subjects in new ways.
Arts-Based Research has the potential to engage researchers and audiences in new ways and helps them make connections that might otherwise have been hidden. Arts-Based Research also encourages a practical approach that at times challenges the product- or result-oriented world of academia and favors instead a process-oriented and creative view on scholarship.
