Could you tell us briefly about your background and how you became interested in your research area?

After college, I worked for some years in radio and as a speechwriter and policy person, returning to academia in my late 20s. Because of my background, I found myself working in the study of the media, even though this had not been my academic field. My fields of interest are very diverse: International Political Economy, Media Studies, Class, Gender, Race, Sports, Cultural Theory, Citizenship, Social Theory, Cultural Studies, Political Theory, Cultural Labor, Environment, Cultural Policy, the Americas. I got interested in them for a range of scholarly, political, and personal reasons.

What did you do during your time at our department?

I have had the good fortune to meet with some doctoral students and discuss their research; addressed a roundtable-symposium; and worked on an article with Professor Annika Sjölander

What are you currently working on, what projects are you involved in?

I’m part of a grant about environmental communication and sports and am writing books called Why Journalism? And Making Up People

What does a normal working day look like?

Reading and answering emails, reviewing the news, writing

What is the most fun about your job?

Meeting exciting people and learning from them, be they folks on the bus or the classroom

What is most challenging?  Filling out forms and justifying myself

What do you want to do in the future? Be employed and spend time with my children
