Kursen inleds med att introducera den studerande i datorbaserad analys av rumsliga data. Detta sker genom användning av vektordata i geografiska informationssystem (GIS). Vidare behandlas teoretisk och tillämpad kartografi samt enklare tematiska analyser av kartmaterial från befintliga databaser. Den GIS-programvara som används i kursen är ArcGIS Desktop.
Efter avslutad kurs skall studenten kunna:
Kunskap och förståelse
1. förklara grundläggande begrepp relaterade till kartografi och vektor-GIS,
Färdighet och förmåga
2. framställa och tolka enklare tematiska kartor med hjälp av GIS,
3. förstå och applicera grundläggande principer i kartdesign, och
4. tillämpa GIS som stöd i skriftliga och muntliga redogörelser för rumsliga analyser inom samhällsvetenskapliga problemområden.
Grundläggande behörighet
Undervisningen ges i form av föreläsningar, övningar och seminarier. Övningarna – både under handledning av lärare och i form av eget arbete – utgör ett väsentligt inslag under kursen. I kursen ingående seminarier utgör examinationstillfällen. Kursen ges på engelska.
Examinationen sker genom redovisning av arbetsuppgifter, en sals tentamen och en hemtentamen. För studerande som ej blivit godkänd vid ordinarie provtillfällen erbjuds ytterligare provtillfällen i nära anslutning härtill. Betyg på kursen sätts först när alla prov och moment är godkända. På kursen ges betyget väl godkänd, godkänd eller underkänd. Närmare anvisningar om prov och redovisningar lämnas vid kursstarten.
Betyg kan inte överklagas, dvs. prövas av någon högre instans, men en student kan alltid göra anmärkningar mot rättningen eller begära att examinator omprövar sitt beslut.
En student som utan godkänt resultat har genomgått två prov för en kurs eller en del av en kurs, har rätt att få en annan examinator utsedd, om inte särskilda skäl talar emot det (6 kap. 11b § HF). Studenten kan vända sig till studierektor med en begäran om annan examinator.
