Kursen behandlar och ger fördjupad kunskap om geoekologiska processer i arktiska-subarktiska ekosystem. Den innehåller teoretiska studier och praktiska fältstudier. Kursen har en stark forskningsanknytning.
Kursen indelas i två moment:
Moment 1. Biogeokemiska processer samt klimatsystemet i arktiska-subarktiska miljöer, 7.5 högskolepoäng
Momentet ger fördjupade kunskaper om biogeokemiska processer i arktiska-subarktiska miljöer och hur dessa påverkar akvatiska ekosystem. En central del är kopplingen mellan terrestra och akvatiska system samt flöden av näringsämnen och växthusgaser. Momentet behandlar också hur de terrestra och akvatiska ekosystemen förändrats under de senaste 10 000 åren med avseende på klimat och biogeokemiska processer. Det lokala klimatet och framtida klimatförändringar i subarktiska miljöer behandlas även. Exkursioner till olika typer av ekosystem ingår i momentet.
Moment 2. Projektarbete, 7.5 högskolepoäng
Momentet omfattar en fördjupad studie av abiotiska/biotiska processer i arktiska- subarktiska ekosystem. Arbetet görs enskilt eller i grupp som ett fördjupningsarbete baserat på egna insamlade och tidigare publicerade data. Kursmomentet innehåller en fältprovtagningsdel där provmaterial samlas in för analys. Data analyseras, bearbetas och redovisas som en skriftlig rapport och muntlig redovisning. Stor vikt läggs vid ett vetenskapligt förfaringssätt i projektarbetet.
Efter avklarad kurs skall studenten kunna:
Moment 1
- redovisa olika biogeokemiska processer i den arktiska-subarktiska miljön och förklara hur dessa kan påverka akvatiska ekosystem
- beskriva kopplingen mellan terrestra och akvatiska ekosystem
- beskriva omsättningen av näringsämnen och organiskt material och bildning av växthusgaser i den arktiska-subarktiska miljön
- särskilja olika ekosystemeffekter av klimatförändringar samt växthusgasernas återkoppling på klimatet
Moment 2.
- visa färdighet i att planera, genomföra och dokumentera ett projektarbete
- redogöra för och underbygga resultat och slutsatser muntligt och skriftligt
- kritiskt granska, värdera och diskutera vetenskapliga rapporter.
120 hp varav 60 hp inom något av ämnena biologi/geovetenskap/naturgeografi eller motsvarande kunskaper. En A och svenska för grundläggande behörighet för högskolestudier om utbildningen ges på svenska.
I undervisningen ingår föreläsningar samt terrestra och akvatiska fält- och laboratoriemoment. Ett fördjupningsarbete är en obligatorisk del av kursen. Arbetet presenteras både skriftligt och muntligt i samband med ett slutseminarium.
Examinationen sker dels genom skriftlig tentamen, dels genom redovisning av projektarbete. Det egna arbetet ska analysera processer relevanta för subarktiska-alpina samhällen. På en skriftlig tentamen, projektarbete och på hel kurs sätts något av betygen underkänd (U), godkänd (G) eller väl godkänd (VG).En student som utan godkänt resultat har genomgått två prov för en kurs eller en del av en kurs, har rätt att få en annan examinator utsedd, om inte särskilda skäl talar emot det (HF 6 kap. 22§). Begäran om ny examinator ställs prefekten för institutionen för ekologi, miljö och geovetenskap.
Den som godkänts i prov får ej undergå förnyat prov för högre betyg. För att bli godkänd på hela kursen krävs att alla prov och obligatoriska moment är godkända. Betyget på kursen utgör en sammanfattande bedömning av resultaten vid examinationens olika delar och sätts först när alla obligatoriska moment är godkända.
