The statistics in Tabellverket (TABVERK) enable demographical studies from several angles on both local and regional level in Sweden during the pre-industrial society and the initial phase of the industrialization and urbanisation processes.
The database TABVERK contains all the information about the population in the Swedish parishes during the period 1749 to 1859, as reported by the clergymen in large forms of tables to the Tabellkommissionen in Stockholm (Tabellverket). This Swedish population statistics is a fairly unique source, because of its thorough demographic information at such an early date.
Aggregated national data
The statistics allow demographic studies with different perspectives on local and regional level, during the pre-industrial society and the initial phase of industrialization and urbanization processes. Due to the digitized parish statistics it is possible to study fertility, mortality, nuptiality and migrations from a historical point of view, as well as population distributed by sex, age, civil status and social status. Parish statistics from almost 2 500 parishes have been registered by the DDB, which in turn cover information from the north to the south of Sweden.
