It is possible to bequeath all or part of an inheritance to support research at Umeå University—or to donate a property.
Writing a will is a significant act. It is important that your will clearly expresses how you want your estate to be distributed. If you choose to name Umeå University as a beneficiary, it is essential that the university’s name and organization number are included in the will. Only assets that may legally be sold can be bequeathed to the university. You should also specify the intended purpose of your donation—known as the donation purpose.
Drafting a Will with Legal Assistance
Umeå University is unable to assist in drafting wills. We recommend that you consult a lawyer or other legal expert to ensure your will is legally valid. However, we are happy to answer questions about our donation purposes.
The Finance Office at Umeå University is responsible for contacting the estate and for managing the sale of properties, securities, and similar assets.
How Your Donation Can Be Used
Your gift to Umeå University will always serve the public good, and we are deeply grateful for your contribution to advancing knowledge in society.
To make things easier, we have identified several areas where continued development is especially needed. These include: Research on democracy, Climate research, Infectious disease research, Arctic and Sámi research, Economic research, Cultural studies, Forestry research, Medical research, Umevatoriet (science center), Bildmuseet (art museum)
We also conduct important work in many other areas. If you are passionate about a different field of research or education, you are welcome to specify your own donation purpose. Another option is to make a general donation to Umeå University.
