About the Department

The department of Ecology and Environmental Sciences (EMG) gathers researchers, teachers and students in the area of environment and nature.

The Department of Ecology and Environmental Science (EMG) is both a research and teaching department situated within the Umeå University campus. The department has approximately 120 staff members. In addition to nationally and internationally important research in the fields of Ecology, Physical Geography and Environmental Health a range of relevant Undergraduate, Masters and Doctoral degrees are also available.

The department offers four main Undergraduate study programmes and a wide range of independent courses, catering for approximately 300 full-time students. A range of Masters programmes are available for both International and Swedish students in Ecology, Earth Science and Environmental Science.

A wide range of research in: ecology, evolution, aquatic ecology, environmental change and physical geography is carried out in the department in close conjunction with a Doctoral research degree program.
