Satish Strömberg

Using generative AI as your personal research assistant

I will explain and exemplify how generative AI can serve as a dynamic and adaptive research assistant, supporting researchers in both textual and conversational workflows. Grounded in practical use cases, the session will demonstrate how AI tools can be integrated into different stages of the research process—ranging from literature exploration and argument structuring to iterative writing and conference presentation ideas.

Rather than viewing AI as a fixed system with predefined limits, I will encourage participants to approach these tools as responsive collaborators whose potential is shaped by the user's curiosity, creativity, and critical engagement. Special attention will be given to how researchers can interact with AI through prompting strategies, reflexive dialogue, and sustained iteration to enhance thinking and reflection.

Participants will leave with a nuanced understanding of both the opportunities and the limitations of generative AI. Ultimately, I aim to show that it is our own imagination and academic judgment that determines how far we can go in using AI to support rigorous, reflective, and innovative research.
