Research at the Department of Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics

We have around 80 active scientists at all levels from PhD students to postdocs, assistant professors, senior lecturers, and full professors. We mainly conduct research in five complementary research domains.

Our research domains

Gruppbild av forskargruppen i beräkningsmatematik
Computational Mathematics

Research on novel computational methods for the solution of partial and stochastic differential equations.

Discrete Mathematics

More about our research in Discrete Mathematics.

Mathematical Foundations of Artificial Intelligence

About our research in Mathematical Foundations of Artificial Intelligence

Mathematical Modeling and Analysis

More about our research in Mathematical Modeling and Analysis

Mathematical Statistics

More about our research in Mathematical Statistics.

The daily work is carried out within one or several of our research groups. For example, we have innovative research groups in

Geometry
Geometric Deep Learning
Group theory

In addition to the research domains above, individual researchers are also working in mathematical didactics at Umeå Mathematics Education Research Centre (UMERC).
