Here, we explore the interesting intersection of biology and physics, uncovering the physical principles that govern biological systems. Our research groups are dedicated to advancing our understanding of life at the molecular, cellular, and systems levels, using both experimental, theoretical and computational methods.
We tackle a wide array of topics, including gene regulation, aging, networks and more.
Biophysics combines the rigor of physics with the complexity of biology to study life at all scales. The research groups at Umeå University focus on diverse areas such as the interaction of light with biological systems and the physical principles underlying cellular processes. The Biophysics and Biophotonics Group investigates how light can be used to probe and manipulate biological systems, while the Ludvig Lizana Lab explores the physical mechanisms that drive cellular behavior and organization.
