Transfer to Umeå – later part of a programme

If you have started an education at another university and Umeå University offers a similar education, it may be possible to apply for a later part of the programme.

Later part of the programme means that you are not applying for the first semester, but for a later semester. This is only possible if there are places available for the semester to which you are eligible.

Most programmes at Umeå University have Swedish as the language of instruction, but there are also some programmes that have English as the language of instruction.

Eligibility

To be admitted to the later part of a programme, you must have sufficient prior knowledge.

For Umeå University to be able to assess your qualifications, you must:

  • Fulfill the basic and special requirements for the programme.
  • Meet the English language requirements (universityadmissions.se)
  • Have sufficient prior knowledge corresponding to the programme you are applying for equivalent to at least 30 ECTS (the course in the first semester of our programme) or more if you are applying to a later semester.
  • Upload a complete application (all documents).
  • You will compete with others for the places that may be available. Applicants will be ranked according to GPA, the Swedish Scholastic Aptitude Test or the number of academic credits depending on programme and semester.

Application

Before you apply for admission to a later part of the programme, you should contact the study counsellor of the programme for more information about the programme's content and structure and which documents you should attach to your application. You can also contact them if you have specific questions about course selections within a programme, the possibilities for placements or studies abroad, approved leave from studies, application for transfer of credits or options after studying a certain programme.
