Architectural Technology 2:2 6 credits
About the course
The course introduces students to the construction principles of larger-scale buildings. Students examine how structure and envelope are organized by examining how substructures, superstructures, and envelopes of larger buildings. Students are introduced to complex envelope systems and the materials and components commonly used in their assembly. Aspects related to energy, climate, and material behaviour are applied to design thinking.
Through practical exercises, students examine the relationship between structure and envelope and begin to integrate technical knowledge with architectural design for larger buildings through technical drawings and physical and/or digital models. The course also introduces Building Performance Simulation (BPS) as a tool for implementing passive design strategies.
