About the course

The three main fields of study are democracy, human rights and sustainability. Basic prerequisites for democracy are highlighted and discussed. Human rights are studied and analyzed historically, politically and from a juridical point of view. Different theoretical perspectives within the field of sustainable development are studied from both international and Swedish perspectives. The main fields of study are treated in global perspectives and in relation to current topics in education.

Form of instruction

The teaching is organised through lectures and group seminars. The teaching activities, including course specific information and communication with students, can partly or totally be carried out with support from information and communication technology. Frequently asked questions

I am an exchange student. Will you be able to fill in documents (i.e. percentage) from my home university to translate the Swedish grade to percentage so that I can credit my course?

No, we do not sign these documents. Your home university is responsible for translating Swedish grades into your country's grading system. It may help to present your course work and exams from Umeå University to your home university when you return.

Is this course available online and in a slow pace as well?

No, this course is only offered as full-time courses on campus and twice a year: once at the end of the Spring semester and once at the end of the Autumn semester.
