72 hour exchange in Seoul for Umeå students

NEWS This spring, Emil Stighäll and Jennifer Söderlund, two students at Umeå University, will go on a 72 hour exchange to Seoul in South Korea. An intense three days of student life awaits them at Sogang University. To let you follow the students on their journey, Emil and Jennifer will report their experiences in social media, mostly through Facebook and Instagram.

It was in 2016, that the International Office and the Communications Office at Umeå University developed and implemented the idea of a 72 hour exchange.

“It’s not at all a new exchange programme. The 72 hour exchange is rather an initiative to encourage students at Umeå University to discover the possibilities of studying abroad, and in that way increase the number of outbound exchanges through our regular exchange programmes. It’s also a way for the University to strengthen its relationship with Sogang University,” says Gregory Neely, Head of the International Office at Umeå University.

This autumn, 116 students applied to the competition, and two were chosen as the final candidates to go through with a 72-hour long exchange. The journey will take place in May 2017 and Umeå University will cover expenses such as travel costs, accommodation and activities.

“It feels like a fantastic opportunity to be given the chance to visit South Korea and explore what it’s like at a university there,” says Emil Stighäll, student at the Programme in Human Resource Management. “I hope we’ll be able to achieve something good with social media and hopefully inspire other students.”

“I’m super excited and think it’ll be lots of fun. I’ve worked with photography and text for social media in the past, so it’ll be a good work experience as well,” says Jennifer Söderlund, student at the Bachelor Programme in Journalism.

In Seoul, an intense three days of student life awaits them at Sogang University. Emil and Jennifer will take part in life both at campus and in the buzzling city. In order for Umeå students to be able to follow the journey, Emil and Jennifer will report by writing, filming, photographing and posting their reports on social media.

Sogang University in Seoul was founded in 1960 and offers a wide selection of bachelor and research programmes. Umeå University signed an exchange agreement with Sogang University in 2011.[Office1]
