Affordances and Design

NEWS A chapter on affordances, written by Victor Kaptelinin, was published in the Interaction-Design.Org online encyclopedia earlier this year.

Affordance is one of the most central concepts in HCI and interaction design, but it is also one of the most controversial. A chapter by Victor Kaptelinin, professor at the Department of Informatics, in the Interaction-Design.Org online encyclopedia discusses the concept and how it has been used in HCI. The chapter explores the continuing debate in HCI research concerning theoretical interpretations and design implications of the concept of affordances.
