All-time high number of exchange student applications to Umeå University

A total of 586 students have applied to study on exchange at Umeå during the autumn 2014 term or the entire 2014/15 academic year. This is a new record high and an increase of 13 per cent in comparison with the 2013/14 academic year.
During recent years the total number of applications from incoming exchange students has increased by approximately five per cent for the autumn academic term and full-year students. Applications jumped dramatically during the most recent period, with a 13 per cent spike in comparison with last year.
“It is very gratifying that Umeå University is such an attractive university,” says Per A Nilsson, Strategist at the Communication and International Relations Office.
“We are pleased to receive a large number of exchange students, but it is also a challenge for us when the increase is so great," continues Per A Nilsson. "We want to be able to meet student’s needs for courses, housing and social programmes because we strive towards making the students to be satified during their stay at Umeå University.”
Typically, a total of 750-800 exchange students come to study at Umeå University during an academic year. Application figures for the spring academic term are not included in 586 for the autumn 2014 term.
