Both Umea students in Japan quake zone are safe

NEWS The two Umeå University students that are currently studying on exchange at Tohoku University in Sendai, Japan have been accounted for. The area surrounding the coastal city of Sendai and surrounding areas have suffered catastrophic damage from Friday’s offshore earthquake, tsunami with 10 metre high waves, and nuclear power plant meltdown fears.

Both Umeå students are in their final year of studies in engineering physics. They were situated in Sendai when the catastrophic quake struck on Friday. During the afternoon (Swedish local time), Umeå University was informed by reliable sources that the students were unharmed and accounted for. The university has not received any additional information about their current status.
