Business Administration receives top rating from the National Agency for Higher Education
NEWS
Umeå School of Business and Economics received a strong evaluation from the National Agency for Higher Education for its degrees in Business Administration. The four-year Magister (Eng. Master of Science) degree is one out of three in Sweden to receive the top rating “very high quality”. The Bachelor and Master degrees are considered to be of high quality.
– We are very glad to receive these positive results. The evaluation provides a receipt of the hard work put in by coworkers and students in developing our education. The results show that our students’ thesis work are of a very high standard, says Lars Lindbergh, Dean of Umeå School of Business and Economics.
Business administration as a subject has the largest number of students enrolled at Swedish universities and business schools. In total 67 degrees in Business administration were evaluated and almost 40 percent, 25 degrees, were considered to have such problems that they received the review quality deficiencies. 34 degrees were considered to be of high quality and only 8 degrees are considered to have very high quality. Among 3 magister degrees considered to have very high quality, the magister degree in Business administration at Umeå School of Business and Economics is included.
– To receive a top rating when so many degrees were evaluated is of course an additional recognition. It shows the high level of the education at Umeå School of Business and Economics, Lars Lindbergh says.
The results presented by the National Agency for Higher Education are derived from a new evaluation model, which emphasized students thesis work (degree projects). The education is assessed according to a scale with three steps: very high quality, high quality, quality deficiencies. 2011-2014 the National Agency for Higher Education will evaluate all degrees awarded at basic or advanced level. In total, approximately 6000 programs/degrees will be evaluated.
