The UCMR Linnaeus program actively attempts to reinforce and increase the role of women in science. The objective of this policy is to achieve a gender equal distribution within each of the principal investigator categories, i.e. for research professors/teachers with tenure and junior research group leaders.
Female scientists holding positions as assistant/associated professor (forskarassistent/universitetslektor) are invited to apply for research grants of 750 kSEK/year during two years, 2017-2018. Entitled to apply are female group leaders associated with UCMR (http://www.ucmr.umu.se/ ) at Umeå University and who have established themselves as independent principal investigators with research of relevance for infection biology. In addition to the applicants´ research accomplishments the situation with respect to funding and obligations in e.g. teaching will be considered in the selection. Priority will be given to applicants who have not earlier been recipients of grants from the UCMR Linnaeus Gender Support program.
The applications will be reviewed by an external panel of experts and should include the following:
I) A cover letter signed by the applicant, i.e. the group leader, and by the chairperson (Prefekt) of the applicant’s department at Umeå University.
II) Research program, max. 5 A4 pages (font 12):
The program should be presented according to the following:
Specific aim. Concise. One or max two sentences.
Background. Short introduction to the research area and a description of previous collaborations and contributions to the UCMR Infection Biology research environment. Describe also how this specific research relates to previous and present support from different UCMR programs (UCMR Linnaeus program or MIMS).
Earlier results. Preliminary results, either in the form of data presented in Tables/Figures or by reference to preliminary manuscripts.
Work plan. Description of planned work, including hypotheses and methods. Include a description of planned interactions and/or collaborations within the UCMR environment. Literature references do not have to be included in the 5 pages (list only the most relevant references).
III) A short (max two pages) CV including information about present position, teaching obligations/commitment and all internal/external funding.
IV) A list of publications during the period 2010-2016.
V) A personal statement describing your experience and the qualifications that make you particularly well-suited for your role to lead the project, the planned interactions and/or collaborations within the UCMR research environment and why obtaining this gender support now would be crucial for your continued scientific career as independent group leader. Applicants that earlier have been recipients of grants from the UCMR Linnaeus Gender Policy Support program should include a short statement about the use (salaries, consumables, equipment, etc) of the previous grant.
