Constructions have begun on new Police Education Building

NEWS On 6 April, the first sod was turned for the new Police Education Building that will gather all of the police education under one roof at Campus Umeå. Besides, this event also marked a hopeful start of further improved integration between the police education and other educations at Umeå University.

“Finally, the constructions of a new building for educational purposes has started. For approximately 15 years, we have offered the police education in premises at locations spread across Umeå. Now, the education will become a part of campus and can be better integrated both with other programmes and other resources at Campus Umeå,” says Lars-Erik Lauritz, director of the Police Education Unit at Umeå University.

The new police education building involves an investment for Akademiska Hus of SEK 165 million. The premises next to the Northern Behavioural Sciences Building will span across 6,000 m2 and three floors and will contain lecture halls, offices and premises for practice drills.

“We are overjoyed that the first sod has now been turned and the building process has started. The new premises for the police education will help us to concentrate the education and to create a more lively campus area,” says David Carlsson, regional director of the northern Swedish branch of Akademiska Hus AB.

Akademiska Hus and Umeå University have close collaborations on developing the physical campus environment. Late 2015, a decision was reached on a joint campus plan indicating how the area should be condensed and livelier. The plans also include a number of building projects of which the police education’s new premises are one.

“Umeå University is very pleased about relocating another part of our operations to campus,” says Anders Fällström, Pro-Vice-Chancellor at Umeå University.

The estimated time of completion of the new Police Education Building is autumn 2017.
