Creative opening of IceLab research centre

NEWS The Integrated Science Lab (IceLab), a new centre for young researchers at Umeå University, officially begins its operations on Friday 16 April. The premises are more like a living room than an office, in order to stimulate creative discussions. Creativity is also the theme for the opening ceremony.

IceLab is an interdisciplinary initiative that was established at three departments: Ecology and Environmental Science, Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics, and Physics. Their research focuses on understanding the large-scale organization of social, biological and technological systems using tools from physics, mathematics, and computer science. It includes everything from how bark beetles attack and kill the forests to how information is spread between people.
