Curious about exchange studies outside Europe?

NEWS Are you curious about going on an exchange but don't know where to start? Or have you already decided and want to know more about the application process? The International Office at Umeå University now offers several events for you to find out about your opportunities to go on exchange studies. Right now there is a particular focus on exchange studies outside Europe.

Now you can apply for exchange studies to study a semester or two at one of our partner universities outside Europe during the academic year 2024/2025. Between 15 October and 15 November, you can apply for exchange studies to study at a university in the USA, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and five different countries in Asia with which Umeå University has a an exchange agreement.

As an exchange student, you do not pay a tuition fee to the partner university and you can apply to be credited for your studies at Umeå University. Your education period does not therefore need to be longer when you choose to study abroad.

41 universities in 11 countries outside Europe to choose from

For the academic year 2024/2025, there are currently 149 places spread across 41 universities in 11 countries outside Europe that you can apply to.

- Through an exchange, you can both broaden and deepen your education. Traveling and experiencing another culture is both fun, enriching and educational. It is also a merit for a future career, says Ida Bergmark, international coordinator at the International Office.

An experience of a lifetime

Many students at Umeå University take the chance to go on exchange. One of them is Aron Lindblad who spent a semester at the University of Minnesota Duluth in the USA.

- My time as an exchange student in the USA was an incredibly enriching experience, says Aron. I got to experience new and innovative teaching methods, collaborate with international students and challenge myself in a different cultural context. It has also affected me on a personal level and made me more independent and flexible, and also improved my ability to adapt to different environments and handle different situations.
