Emmanuelle Charpentier receives Gruber Foundation award

The Gruber Foundation has awarded three international prizes honouring individuals for their groundbreaking work in the sciences. One of the 2015 Gruber Prize recipients in Genetics is Emmanuelle Charpentier affiliated with Umeå University.
The Gruber Foundation was established at Yale in the United States to honour and encourage excellent scientists in the fields of cosmology, genetics, neuroscience, justice, and women's rights. This prize is considered among the most prestigious awards in the sciences and the prize recipients are also awarded USD 500,000 for their groundbreaking work providing new models that inspire and enable fundamental shifts in knowledge.
The 2015 Gruber Prize for Genetics is awarded Emmanuelle Charpentier at Molecular Infection Medicine Sweden (MIMS) at Umeå University and also active at the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research in Germany as well as her colleague Jennifer Doudna at the University of California-Berkley in the United States.
Emmanuelle Charpentier and Jennifer Doudna are known for their joint discovery of the CRISPR Cas9 mechanisms in bacteria, which has led to researchers around the world being able to edit and change DNA with the aid of a simple tool.
