Exchange agreement signed with Tokyo Metropolitan University
NEWS
An exchange agreement has been signed between Umeå University and Tokyo Metropolitan University – a young university that has been ranked as the sixth best university in Japan by Times Higher Education.
In the past couple of years students at Umeå university have expressed an increased interest in studying and pursuing practical training in Asia. Last year, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Anders Fällström and International Director Per A Nilsson visited existing and potential partner universities in Asia to look into the possibility of signing new exchange agreements.
"We got a very good first impression of TMU when we visited them and I think that many of our students would like to study there," says international director Per A Nilsson. "It feels like we have established a good connection in a very short period of time and it is also very exciting that TMU will be visiting us this week."
Tokyo Metropolitan University became a university in 2005 when several smaller institutions merged into one. The university is the only state university in Tokyo and has just over 9,000 students. TMU is ranked as the sixth best university in Japan and is world ranked in the range 201-225 by Times Higher Education.
Since 1997, Umeå University has a central exchange agreement with Tohoku University and last year an agreement was signed with Hokkaido University. Tokyo Metropolitan University is therefore the third university in Japan which Umeå University has signed an agreement with. On Friday 14 of March, Yuki Hirose (TMU) will visit Umeå University to learn more about some of our operations.
