French duo to lecture at Bildmuseet art museum

NEWS On Tuesday 3 February the Paris-based art duo Bureau d’études – currently portrayed in “The Map” exhibition - will be appearing at Umeå University’s Bildmuseet. They will give an open lecture at 6:30 pm and describe their social maps; tools to help us better understand ourselves.

Bureau d’études was formed by the artist-duo Léonore Bonaccini and Francois-Xavier Fourt. For the last several years, the French Group has been producing cartographies of contemporary political, social and economic systems. The visual analysis of transnational capitalism is based on extensive research and usually is presented in the form of large-sized murals.

This mapping project by Bureau d’études makes it possible to create order in the social reality. The maps are lacking latitudes, longitudes and other symbols that are normally used in topography. Their compass image of social geography is instead based on symbolic or quasi-symbolic elements such as information, convention, and rules that govern social relations and separation of powers.

We welcome you to attend and listen to a lecture by Bureau d’études on "Mapping the Laboratory Planet" at Bildmuseet on Tuesday 3 February at 6:30 pm. Free admission. Lecture will be given in English.
